Description
A family-friendly recipe for making delicious gluten-free dumplings with homemade wonton wrappers and a savory pork & cabbage filling. This recipe brings back the classic dumpling experience for those eating gluten-free, with tender yet sturdy wrappers that can be boiled, steamed, or pan-fried.
Ingredients
1 cup (120g) fine white rice flour
1/3 cup (40g) tapioca starch
1 tbsp potato starch
1/2 tsp salt
1 large egg, beate
3–4 tbsp warm water
1/2 lb ground pork
1 cup finely chopped napa cabbage
2 green onions, finely sliced
1 tbsp gluten-free tamari or coconut aminos
1 tsp grated fresh ginger
1 tsp sesame oil
Instructions
- Whisk rice flour, tapioca starch, potato starch, and salt in a bowl. Create a well and add beaten egg. Gradually mix in warm water until a shaggy dough forms
- Knead dough for 2-3 minutes until smooth. Wrap in plastic and let rest for 30 minutes
- Mix ground pork, napa cabbage, green onions, tamari, ginger, and sesame oil in a separate bowl for the filling
- Roll dough out thinly on a surface dusted with tapioca starch. Cut into 3-inch squares
- Place 1 tsp of filling in center of each wrapper. Moisten edges with water, fold into triangle, and press to seal tightly
- To cook: Pan-fry in hot oil until bottoms are golden, add 1/4 cup water, cover immediately, and steam-fry for 8-10 minutes until cooked through. Alternatively, boil or steam until done
Notes
Keep unused dough covered with a damp towel to prevent drying.
Do not overfill wrappers—use about 1 tsp filling per wrapper.
For vegan version, replace egg with a flax egg (1 tbsp ground flax + 3 tbsp water).
Uncooked dumplings can be frozen on parchment-lined tray, then transferred to bag.
