This recipe simplifies gourmet indulgence and is a fun activity for the whole family.

Ingredients

  • Glutinous Rice Flour (Mochiko): 1 ½ cups
  • Granulated Sugar: ½ cup
  • Baking Powder: 2 teaspoons
  • Salt: ¼ teaspoon
  • Warm Milk: ¾ cup
  • Large Egg: 1
  • Melted Unsalted Butter: 2 tablespoons
  • Vanilla Extract: 1 teaspoon
  • Vegetable Oil (for frying): 4 cups
  • Powdered Sugar (for dusting): ½ cup (optional)

Instructions

  • 1. 1. In a large bowl, whisk together the glutinous rice flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  • 2. 2. In a separate bowl, combine the warm milk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
  • 3. 3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined, forming a sticky dough for your mochi doughnuts.
  • 4. 4. Heat the vegetable oil in a large pot or Dutch oven to 325°F (160°C).
  • 5. 5. Using two greased spoons or your hands, carefully drop spoonfuls of dough into the hot oil.
  • 6. 6. Fry the mochi doughnuts for 3-5 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden brown and cooked through.
  • 7. 7. Remove them with a slotted spoon and place on a wire rack lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
  • 8. 8. Dust your warm, tasty mochi doughnuts with powdered sugar if desired.
