Description

A creamy, subtly sweet homemade Taro Milk Tea made with real taro root. This nourishing version is a family favorite, avoiding store-bought powders and questionable ingredients.

Ingredients

Scale

1 cup Fresh taro root, peeled & cubed
2 Black tea bags
1 cup Whole milk
2 tablespoons Sweetened condensed milk
1 cup Water
1 cup Ice cubes

Instructions

  1. Peel and cube the taro root carefully
  2. Steam the taro cubes for 15 minutes until fork-tender
  3. While taro steams, brew the black tea in hot water
  4. Mash the cooked taro until smooth and creamy
  5. Blend the mashed taro with milk and sweetened condensed milk
  6. Strain this Taro Milk Tea mixture into a glass
  7. Pour the strong tea over the mixture
  8. Add ice cubes and stir gently. Enjoy immediately

Notes

Always wear gloves when peeling taro. The raw skin can irritate.

Steam, never boil, the taro. Steaming preserves its delicate flavor.

Blend the taro mixture very thoroughly. A smooth Taro Milk Tea is a happy one.

Taste your Taro Milk Tea before adding all the sweetener. Taro varies in natural sweetness.

Store leftover Taro Milk Tea in a sealed jar in the fridge for up to two days. Do not freeze. Shake or stir before serving.
