Tamarind Sauce Recipe

  • Author: HANNAH
  • Total Time: 12 mins
  • Yield: About 1 cup (8 servings of 2 tbsp each) 1x
  • Diet: Can be made Vegan

Description

A versatile homemade tamarind sauce that balances tangy, sweet, and savory flavors, perfect as a dip, glaze, or dressing for various dishes.

Ingredients

Scale

2 tbsp Tamarind Concentrate
1/2 cup Warm Water
2 tbsp Brown Sugar
1 tbsp Fish Sauce
1 tsp Rice Vinegar

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, whisk the tamarind concentrate with warm water until completely dissolved
  2. Stir in the brown sugar, fish sauce, and rice vinegar. Whisk vigorously until the sugar dissolves
  3. Pour the mixture into a small saucepan. Heat over medium-low for 5-7 minutes, stirring often, until slightly thickened
  4. Remove from heat and let cool to room temperature. The sauce will thicken further as it cools

Notes

For a vegan version, substitute fish sauce with soy sauce or tamari.

If sauce thickens too much in storage, whisk in a teaspoon of warm water to loosen.

Flavors improve after a day in the fridge; store in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks.
