Ingredients
1.5 cups Warm Water
2.25 teaspoons Active Dry Yeast
1 teaspoon Granulated Sugar
3.5 cups All-Purpose Flour
1 teaspoon Salt (for dough)
0.25 cup Olive Oil (for dough)
1 teaspoon Garlic Powder
3 cloves Fresh Garlic, minced
0.5 cup Parmesan Cheese, freshly grated
1 tablespoon Fresh Rosemary, chopped (optional)
2 tablespoons Olive Oil (for pan)
2 tablespoons Olive Oil (for topping)
0.5 teaspoon Salt (for topping)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine warm water (105-115°F), sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy to confirm yeast is active
- Stir in the 3.5 cups all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon salt (for dough), 0.25 cup olive oil (for dough), and garlic powder. Mix until a shaggy dough forms. Turn it onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic
- Lightly oil a clean bowl. Place the dough in the bowl, turn to coat, cover with plastic wrap, and let rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled
- Drizzle 2 tablespoons of olive oil into a 9×13 inch baking pa
- Gently press the risen dough into the oiled pan, stretching it to fit. Use your fingertips to create deep dimples all over the surface. Drizzle with the remaining 2 tablespoons of olive oil (for topping). Sprinkle with minced fresh garlic, 0.5 teaspoon salt (for topping), grated Parmesan cheese, and optional rosemary
- Cover the pan with plastic wrap and let the dough rise again for 30-45 minutes
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through
- Let your Easy Garlic Parmesan Focaccia Bread cool slightly in the pan before transferring to a cutting board. Slice and serve warm
Notes
Ensure your water temperature is just right (105-115°F) for activating the yeast; too hot or too cold can hinder its activity.
Don't skimp on the olive oil for the pan and topping; it contributes to that irresistible crispy crust.
Really press your fingers into the dough to create those characteristic dimples; they hold the delicious olive oil and toppings.
Avoid overbaking to maintain its tender interior.
Store leftover focaccia at room temperature in an airtight container for up to 2 days, or refrigerate for up to 4 days.
To freeze slices, wrap them tightly in plastic wrap, then foil for up to 2 months.
To reheat, warm slices in a 350°F (175°C) oven for 5-10 minutes, or toast briefly in a pan until warm and slightly crispy.
You can prepare the dough a day in advance: after the first rise, punch down, place in an oiled bowl, cover, and refrigerate overnight. Let it come to room temperature for 30-60 minutes before proceeding with dimpling and the second rise.
