This Creamy Pumpkin Flan with Caramelized Apples is a new family classic, perfect for Sunday mornings or any fall gathering. It balances rich, smooth texture with bright, autumnal flavors, making it surprisingly easy to create something special. The combination of silky pumpkin flan and tender, sweet caramelized apples elevates this simple dessert into an unforgettable, gourmet experience for your family table.

Ingredients

Scale
  • Flan Ingredients
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (for caramel)
  • 1 (15 oz) can pumpkin puree
  • 1 (14 oz) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 (12 oz) can evaporated milk
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp ground nutmeg
  • ⅛ tsp ground ginger
  • Caramelized Apples Ingredients
  • 2 large Gala apples, cored and sliced
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of nutmeg

Instructions

1. 1. Prepare the caramel: Pour granulated sugar into a heavy-bottomed pan. Heat gently until melted and golden amber. Immediately pour this into your ramekins, swirling to coat the bottom.

2. 2. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

3. 3. In a large bowl, whisk together the pumpkin puree, sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, eggs, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger for the pumpkin flan. Blend until smooth.

4. 4. Carefully pour the flan mixture over the cooled caramel in each ramekin.

5. 5. Place ramekins in a large baking dish. Pour hot water into the baking dish, coming halfway up the sides of the ramekins, creating a water bath.

6. 6. Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until the center is just set.

7. 7. While the flan cools, sauté sliced apples with butter and brown sugar until tender; these are your fantastic caramelized apples.

8. 8. Chill thoroughly for at least 4 hours before inverting onto plates.
