Description
A warm, custardy bread pudding made with stale challah and tender apples, offering a cozy, comforting dessert perfect for cold weather.
Ingredients
6 cups Stale bread cubed
3 large Apples peeled and diced (Granny Smith)
4 Eggs
2 cups Whole milk
½ cup Granulated sugar
½ cup Brown sugar
4 tbsp Unsalted butter melted
2 tsp Vanilla extract
1 tsp Cinnamo
¼ tsp Salt
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish
- Whisk eggs, milk, granulated sugar, brown sugar, melted butter, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt in a large bowl until smooth
- Fold in bread cubes and diced apples. Toss gently
- Let rest for 10 minutes so bread absorbs custard
- Pour mixture into prepared dish
- Bake for 45 minutes until top is golden brown and puffed
- Cool for 10 minutes. Serve warm
Notes
Use stale bread for best texture; fresh bread turns mushy.
Let mixture sit for 10 minutes to ensure creamy center.
Do not overbake; slight jiggle means it's set.
Store leftovers in fridge for up to 3 days; reheat in microwave or oven.
Freezes well for up to 2 months.
Can substitute milk with half-and-half, use brioche or sourdough, or add nuts/raisins.
