Description

A warm, custardy bread pudding made with stale challah and tender apples, offering a cozy, comforting dessert perfect for cold weather.

Ingredients

Scale

6 cups Stale bread cubed
3 large Apples peeled and diced (Granny Smith)
4 Eggs
2 cups Whole milk
½ cup Granulated sugar
½ cup Brown sugar
4 tbsp Unsalted butter melted
2 tsp Vanilla extract
1 tsp Cinnamo
¼ tsp Salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish
  2. Whisk eggs, milk, granulated sugar, brown sugar, melted butter, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt in a large bowl until smooth
  3. Fold in bread cubes and diced apples. Toss gently
  4. Let rest for 10 minutes so bread absorbs custard
  5. Pour mixture into prepared dish
  6. Bake for 45 minutes until top is golden brown and puffed
  7. Cool for 10 minutes. Serve warm

Notes

Use stale bread for best texture; fresh bread turns mushy.

Let mixture sit for 10 minutes to ensure creamy center.

Do not overbake; slight jiggle means it's set.

Store leftovers in fridge for up to 3 days; reheat in microwave or oven.

Freezes well for up to 2 months.

Can substitute milk with half-and-half, use brioche or sourdough, or add nuts/raisins.
