This Sautéed Napa Cabbage recipe proves that delicious, healthy meals don’t need to be complicated. If you’re looking for a delightful side, a light lunch, or a flavorful addition to almost any meal, truly delivers.
Ingredients
1 medium head Napa Cabbage
3–4 cloves Garlic, minced
2 tablespoons Olive Oil or Avocado Oil
2 tablespoons Low Sodium Soy Sauce or Tamari
1 teaspoon Sesame Oil
1/2 teaspoon Red Pepper Flakes
To taste Salt and Freshly Ground Black Pepper
Instructions
- Wash the Napa cabbage thoroughly. Chop it into 1-inch pieces, separating the white parts from the green leaves
- Heat 2 tablespoons olive oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat
- Add the minced garlic to the hot oil. Sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Then, add the tougher white parts of the Napa cabbage. Stir-fry for 2-3 minutes, allowing them to soften slightly
- Add the green Napa cabbage leaves to the skillet. Pour in 2 tablespoons low sodium soy sauce or tamari and 1 teaspoon sesame oil. If using, sprinkle in 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- Sauté, tossing frequently, for another 3-5 minutes, or until the Napa cabbage is tender-crisp
- Taste the Sautéed Napa Cabbage and season with salt and pepper as needed. Serve immediately!
Notes
Always wash your Napa cabbage thoroughly to remove any dirt.
Ensure your skillet is hot before adding the ingredients; this creates a beautiful sear.
Don’t overcrowd the pan; if you have a very large head of Napa cabbage, cook in batches to avoid steaming instead of sautéing.
The key to perfect Sautéed Napa Cabbage is tender-crispness, so avoid overcooking. A slight crunch offers the best texture.
Taste and adjust seasonings as you go; everyone’s preference differs.
Store leftover Sautéed Napa Cabbage in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
To reheat, gently warm in a skillet over medium heat until heated through, adding a splash of water or broth if it seems dry. You can also microwave briefly.
The texture of reheated Sautéed Napa Cabbage may be slightly softer than freshly prepared.
You can wash and chop the Napa cabbage a day or two in advance. Store it in an airtight container or a sealed bag in the refrigerator to make preparation even quicker.
