A classic, old-fashioned sweet potato casserole made with creamy mashed sweet potatoes, warm spices, and a buttery pecan topping—perfect for holiday dinners or comforting family meals.
Ingredients
For the sweet potato base:
4 cups mashed cooked sweet potatoes (about 4 large)
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1/2 cup whole milk
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
1/4 cup butter, melted
For the topping:
1/3 cup butter, melted
1/3 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup packed brown sugar
1 cup chopped pecans
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
2. In a large mixing bowl, combine mashed sweet potatoes, sugar, eggs, milk, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and melted butter. Mix until smooth.
3. Pour sweet potato mixture into the prepared dish and spread evenly.
4. In a medium bowl, mix melted butter, flour, brown sugar, and pecans until crumbly.
5. Sprinkle pecan topping evenly over the sweet potato mixture.
6. Bake for 35–40 minutes, or until topping is golden brown and filling is set.
7. Let cool slightly before serving.
Notes
Can be made a day ahead—assemble and refrigerate, then bake before serving.
Toasted marshmallows can be used instead of pecans for a sweeter topping.
