- 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup milk
- Red or pink food coloring (optional)
- 1 1/2 cups frosting (buttercream or cream cheese)
- Sprinkles, berries, or other decorations (optional)
Instructions
- 1. Preheat oven to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC) and grease a heart-shaped cake pan.
- 2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
- 3. In a separate large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- 4. Beat in eggs one at a time, then add vanilla extract.
- 5. Gradually add dry ingredients, alternating with milk, and mix until smooth.
- 6. Stir in food coloring if using, and mix until evenly tinted.
- 7. Pour batter into prepared heart-shaped pan and smooth the top.
- 8. Bake for 25โ30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- 9. Let cake cool in pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- 10. Once cooled, frost the cake and decorate as desired with sprinkles or fruit.
Notes
- If you donโt have a heart-shaped pan, combine one square and one round cake to form a heart.
- Flavor variations: Add lemon zest, cocoa powder, or almond extract for a unique twist.
- Store frosted cake covered at room temperature for up to 2 days, or refrigerate for longer freshness.
