Instructions

  • 1. Preheat oven to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC) and grease a heart-shaped cake pan.
  • 2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • 3. In a separate large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  • 4. Beat in eggs one at a time, then add vanilla extract.
  • 5. Gradually add dry ingredients, alternating with milk, and mix until smooth.
  • 6. Stir in food coloring if using, and mix until evenly tinted.
  • 7. Pour batter into prepared heart-shaped pan and smooth the top.
  • 8. Bake for 25โ€“30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • 9. Let cake cool in pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • 10. Once cooled, frost the cake and decorate as desired with sprinkles or fruit.
