- 8 chicken drumsticks
- 2 cups buttermilk
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)
- Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions
- 1. Place chicken drumsticks in a bowl and cover with buttermilk. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight.
- 2. In a bowl, mix flour, salt, pepper, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne if using.
- 3. Remove chicken from buttermilk, allowing excess to drip off.
- 4. Dredge each drumstick thoroughly in seasoned flour.
- 5. Heat oil in a deep skillet or Dutch oven to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC).
- 6. Fry chicken in batches for 12โ15 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden brown and internal temperature reaches 165ยฐF (74ยฐC).
- 7. Remove chicken and drain on a wire rack or paper towels.
- 8. Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.

- Maintain oil temperature for evenly cooked chicken.
- Serve with mashed potatoes, coleslaw, or biscuits for a classic meal.
