Description
Fire roasted tomatoes are charred to perfection to enhance their natural sweetness and smoky depth. Great for sauces, soups, salsa, and more!
Ingredients

- 2 pounds ripe Roma or plum tomatoes
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: 1 clove garlic, minced; 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
Instructions
- 1. Preheat broiler or grill to high heat.
- 2. Cut tomatoes in half lengthwise and place cut-side down on a baking sheet.
- 3. Drizzle with olive oil and season with salt and pepper.
- 4. Broil or grill for 8–10 minutes, until skins are blistered and blackened in spots.
- 5. Remove and let cool slightly. Peel off charred skins if desired.
- 6. Use immediately in recipes, or pulse in a blender for a chunky roasted tomato base.
- 7. For added flavor, toss with minced garlic and red pepper flakes before blending.
Notes
- Fire roasted tomatoes can be stored in the fridge for up to 5 days or frozen for up to 3 months.
- Perfect for pasta sauces, chili, or homemade salsa.
- Substitute canned fire roasted tomatoes in recipes with 1:1 ratio of these homemade ones.
