Description

Fire roasted tomatoes are charred to perfection to enhance their natural sweetness and smoky depth. Great for sauces, soups, salsa, and more!


Ingredients

  1. 2 pounds ripe Roma or plum tomatoes
  2. 1 tablespoon olive oil
  3. Salt and pepper to taste
  4. Optional: 1 clove garlic, minced; 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes

Instructions

  • 1. Preheat broiler or grill to high heat.
  • 2. Cut tomatoes in half lengthwise and place cut-side down on a baking sheet.
  • 3. Drizzle with olive oil and season with salt and pepper.
  • 4. Broil or grill for 8–10 minutes, until skins are blistered and blackened in spots.
  • 5. Remove and let cool slightly. Peel off charred skins if desired.
  • 6. Use immediately in recipes, or pulse in a blender for a chunky roasted tomato base.
  • 7. For added flavor, toss with minced garlic and red pepper flakes before blending.

  • Fire roasted tomatoes can be stored in the fridge for up to 5 days or frozen for up to 3 months.
