Description

This Easy Sautéed Bok Choy Recipe is a weeknight hero, perfect for busy families seeking a quick, healthy, and nourishing side dish. It features vibrant, tender bok choy with a mild flavor and satisfying crunch, prepared with minimal fuss and ingredients. It’s incredibly quick to make and pairs well with almost any main course, even appealing to picky eaters.

Ingredients

Scale

1 lb Bok Choy
2-3 cloves Garlic, minced
1-2 tablespoons Olive Oil or Sesame Oil
1 tablespoon Soy Sauce
2 tablespoons Water or Vegetable Broth
1/4 teaspoon Red Pepper Flakes
To taste Salt and Black Pepper

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Bok Choy: Thoroughly wash the bok choy. Slice off the very bottom of the stems. Separate the leaves. If using larger heads, halve them lengthwise, then cut into 1-inch pieces. For baby bok choy, you can halve them
  2. Heat the Pan: Heat olive oil or sesame oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat
  3. Sauté Garlic: Add minced garlic to the hot oil. Sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Do not burn the garlic
  4. Cook Bok Choy: Add the bok choy to the skillet. Toss it with the garlic and oil. Sauté for 2-3 minutes until the green parts begin to wilt
  5. Add Liquids & Seasonings: Pour in the soy sauce and water (or broth). Add red pepper flakes if using, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Toss everything together
  6. Finish Cooking: Cover the skillet and cook for another 2-4 minutes. The bok choy should be tender-crisp, maintaining a bright green color
  7. Serve: Uncover, give it one final toss. Serve immediately

Notes

Always dry your bok choy thoroughly after washing to ensure it sautés, not steams.

Use a hot pan or wok to achieve the perfect tender-crisp texture.

Avoid overcrowding the pan; cook in batches if necessary to maintain pan temperature.

Bok choy cooks quickly, so keep an eye on it to prevent overcooking and mushiness. It should be tender-crisp with a vibrant green color.

Store leftover sautéed bok choy in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat gently in a skillet or microwave briefly.

For best texture and flavor, cook right before serving.
