A simple yet elegant French-style dessert made with tender apple slices baked in a custardy batter and finished with a drizzle of warm caramelโperfect for cozy evenings or holiday tables.
Ingredients
2 medium apples, peeled and thinly sliced
1 tbsp butter (for sautรฉing apples)
2 tbsp brown sugar
1/2 tsp cinnamon
3 large eggs
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 cup whole milk
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Pinch of salt
2 tbsp caramel sauce, plus more for serving
Butter or oil for greasing the pan
Powdered sugar (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC) and grease a 9-inch pie dish or cast-iron skillet.
2. In a skillet over medium heat, melt butter and sautรฉ apple slices with brown sugar and cinnamon until soft and caramelized, about 5โ7 minutes.
3. Arrange the apples evenly in the prepared dish.
4. In a blender or bowl, combine eggs, granulated sugar, milk, flour, vanilla, and salt. Blend or whisk until smooth.
5. Pour the batter over the apples.
6. Drizzle 2 tablespoons of caramel sauce over the top.
7. Bake for 35โ40 minutes, or until puffed and golden brown at the edges and the center is set.
8. Let cool slightly. Dust with powdered sugar and drizzle with more caramel before serving.
Notes
Clafoutis is best served warm but can also be enjoyed chilled.
Use firm apples like Honeycrisp or Granny Smith for best texture.
Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 daysโreheat gently before serving.
