Ingredients

- 1 1/2 cups warm water
- 1 packet active dry yeast
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2/3 cup baking soda
- 6 cups water (for boiling)
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar (for coating)
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
Instructions
- 1. In a large bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar, then let sit for 5 minutes until foamy
- 2. Add flour and salt and mix until a dough forms
- 3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5 minutes until smooth
- 4. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 45 minutes or until doubled
- 5. Preheat the oven to 425ยฐF (220ยฐC) and line baking sheets with parchment paper
- 6. Divide dough into equal pieces and roll each into a rope, shaping into pretzels
- 7. Bring 6 cups of water to a boil and carefully add baking soda
- 8. Boil each pretzel for 20โ30 seconds, then transfer to the baking sheet
- 9. Bake for 12โ15 minutes until golden brown
- 10. Brush warm pretzels with melted butter
- 11. Mix sugar and cinnamon together and roll pretzels in the mixture before serving
Notes
- Do not skip the baking soda bath for classic pretzel texture
- Serve warm for best flavor
- Leftover pretzels can be reheated in the oven
