2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts, halved and pounded thin

1 cup buttermilk

1/2 tsp salt

1/2 tsp black pepper

Vegetable oil for frying

For the waffles:

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 tbsp sugar

1 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp baking soda

1/4 tsp salt

1 cup buttermilk

1 egg

2 tbsp melted butter

Cooking spray or oil for waffle iron

To assemble:

Maple syrup or hot honey, for drizzling

Pickles (optional)

Butter (optional)


Instructions

1. Marinate chicken pieces in buttermilk and hot sauce (if using) for at least 30 minutes.

2. In a shallow bowl, mix flour, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.

3. Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.

4. Dredge marinated chicken in seasoned flour, pressing to coat.

5. Fry chicken 3–4 minutes per side or until golden and cooked through. Drain on paper towels.

6. Preheat waffle iron. In a bowl, whisk flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

7. In another bowl, whisk buttermilk, egg, and melted butter. Combine wet and dry ingredients until just mixed.

8. Cook batter in waffle iron until golden brown and crisp.

9. Assemble each sandwich by placing a piece of chicken between two waffles.

10. Drizzle with maple syrup or hot honey and add pickles or butter if desired.

11. Serve immediately.
