- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 egg
- 2 tbsp melted butter
- Cooking spray or oil for waffle iron
- To assemble:
- Maple syrup or hot honey, for drizzling
- Pickles (optional)
- Butter (optional)
Instructions
- 1. Marinate chicken pieces in buttermilk and hot sauce (if using) for at least 30 minutes.
- 2. In a shallow bowl, mix flour, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
- 3. Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.
- 4. Dredge marinated chicken in seasoned flour, pressing to coat.
- 5. Fry chicken 3โ4 minutes per side or until golden and cooked through. Drain on paper towels.
- 6. Preheat waffle iron. In a bowl, whisk flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- 7. In another bowl, whisk buttermilk, egg, and melted butter. Combine wet and dry ingredients until just mixed.
- 8. Cook batter in waffle iron until golden brown and crisp.
- 9. Assemble each sandwich by placing a piece of chicken between two waffles.
- 10. Drizzle with maple syrup or hot honey and add pickles or butter if desired.
- 11. Serve immediately.
