Description
A fun and hearty breakfast twist on the classic corndog—featuring sausage links dipped in fluffy pancake batter and fried until golden. Perfect for grab-and-go mornings or brunch parties.
Ingredients
8 breakfast sausage links, fully cooked
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup yellow cornmeal
2 tbsp granulated sugar
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
1 cup buttermilk or milk
1 large egg
1 tbsp melted butter or oil
Wooden skewers or sticks
Vegetable oil, for frying
Optional: maple syrup for dipping
Instructions
1. Insert wooden skewers into each cooked sausage link and pat sausages dry with a paper towel.
2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cornmeal, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
3. In another bowl, whisk together milk, egg, and melted butter. Add wet ingredients to dry and stir until just combined.
4. Heat about 2 inches of oil in a deep skillet or pot to 350°F (175°C).
5. Pour batter into a tall glass for easy dipping. Dip each sausage into the batter to coat evenly.
6. Carefully place coated sausages into the hot oil and fry 2–3 at a time for 3–4 minutes, turning as needed, until golden brown.
7. Remove and drain on paper towels. Serve warm with maple syrup or your favorite breakfast sauce.
Notes
For a shortcut, use boxed pancake mix and fully cooked sausages.
Make mini versions using cut sausage links and toothpicks.
These can be made ahead and reheated in the oven or air fryer.
